Winterbound cats watch
frozen sparrows on power line
feathered popcicles.

January thaw...
Mid winter's
cruel joke.

pepper plant
defiant in the snow,
victorious red banner.

Snow falls in Baghdad.
White bombs of laughing grace,
washing away fear.

Southern accent all but gone,
